Problem
A small dry leaf is gently floating on the surface of still water. A ripple produced a few centimetres away reaches the leaf. What will the leaf most nearly do after the wave train has passed?
(a) Drift away from the point where the ripple was produced, roughly following the wave crests
(b) Move back and forth horizontally without any vertical rise and fall
(c) Remain practically at the same spot while bobbing up and down
(d) Gradually sink below the surface because of the downward push of the waves
