Problem

The quadratic equation 2x2−x−6=02x^{2}-x-6=0 has one obvious integer root. (i) By direct substitution, show that x=2x=2 is a root of the equation. (ii) Using the result from part (i), factorise 2x2−x−62x^{2}-x-6 completely. (iii) Hence, determine the second root of the equation. (iv) Verify that both roots satisfy the original quadratic equation.
