Problem

Two microphones AA and BB are placed along the straight line in which a plane sound wave of frequency 1.2 kHz1.2\,\text{kHz} propagates. The speed of sound in air is 330 m s−1330\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. It is observed that microphone BB records its first maximum 0.25 ms0.25\,\text{ms} after microphone AA records its first maximum. (i) Calculate the phase difference between the disturbances arriving at BB and AA at the instant when AA records its first maximum. (ii) Determine the distance between the two microphones. (iii) Find the least additional distance by which microphone BB must be moved farther away from AA so that the two microphones once again record maxima simultaneously.
