Problem

A long, light rope is fixed to a wall at one end. The free end is moved up and down steadily so that transverse waves of frequency 2 Hz2\,\text{Hz} and wavelength 0.60 m0.60\,\text{m} travel along the rope away from the hand. (i) Calculate the speed of these waves on the rope. (ii) How far will a crest have travelled in 5 s5\,\text{s}? (iii) During the same 5 s5\,\text{s}, what net distance does a specific particle of the rope (situated 1 m1\,\text{m} from the hand) move from its original position? Give reason for your answer.
