Problem

Two double-slit experiments use the same light of wavelength 600 nm600\,\text{nm}. Experiment 1: d1=0.25 mmd_1 = 0.25\,\text{mm}, L1=1.2 mL_1 = 1.2\,\text{m}. Experiment 2: d2=0.40 mmd_2 = 0.40\,\text{mm}, L2=2.0 mL_2 = 2.0\,\text{m}. (a) Calculate the distance from the central maximum to the third bright fringe in Experiment 1. (b) Determine the numerical ratio of that distance in Experiment 2 to the value found in part (a). (c) Which experiment produces more closely spaced bright fringes? State your reasoning in one sentence.
